Drug Test or No Drug Test

"Do You Think That Drug Testing Should be Done as a Requirement for Admission to Schools? Why or Why Not?"

I think that Drug Testing should be done as a requirement for admission to schools as long as the results are kept confidential. Also, it is indeed a great opportunity to those users to seek help. Those results that came back positive must have their private session with the guidance office of the university. It is like assisting those victims to end their obsession of illegal drugs. Another thing, if universities will implement this policy it has its advantages and disadvantages. Let us not only look at the brighter side, but also at the darker side of the issue.

One advantage is that students who take illegal drugs will have the probability to stop because if they don’t they will be screened and will test positive to drug tests. They might not be admitted to the school. I believe that there is no parent who’s going to entrust their sons/daughters to a university knowing that some of the classmates of their children are addicts. Agree?

One disadvantage is when students know that there are Drug Tests they might get scared that they will be humiliated and would not come to school at all. If there are great number of students who took drugs, lots of students will not come to class or would even drop out.

If this happens, percentage of dropouts will increase. The number of dropouts then will be higher than the number of those students who will be graduating.

I firmly believe that implementing this policy will be of great help to the students, their parents and the whole country as long as it is monitored and there should be student confidentiality.

UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION

"TREAT ALL BODY FLUIDS AS INFECTIOUS AND HAZARDOUS"

Proper practice of Universal Precaution is to avoid direct contact with the patient’s bodily fluids such as blood, transudates, exudates, female and male gonadal secretions and products of the excretory organs like the kidneys, pores of the skin and in the respiratory exhalation of substances. This is done by wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) like masks, gloves, hair cap, laboratory gowns, and other face protection..

All patients are well thought-out to be potential carriers of blood-borne pathogens. Wearing gloves when collecting or handling blood and body fluids contaminated with blood and wearing face shields is recommended when there is hazard of blood splashing on mucous membranes and when disposing of all needles and prickly objects in puncture-resistant containers.

Safety measures are suggested for all medical professionals who handles patients directly should utilize this safety precautions. This includes staff and employees who may not come into direct contact with patients.

Added safety measures are used in addition to universal precautions for patients who are identified or assumed to have an infectious condition, and differ depending on the infection control requirements of the patient.

THE POEM by TIMZ

INTRODUCTION

I'm tim, still awake looking for a good rhyme,
It's 2 in the morning i think this would be a good time,
to get it all together and put the words where it should.
I hope you'll appreciate the rhyme and the poem and
comment me that it's good.

THE POEM

The Posterior Pituitary,

important part of the body,
read this poem and imagine
as if i was telling you a story.

It releases hormones Vasopressin & Oxytocin,
some stay in the body and some injected within.
I'll now explain each of their functions so you better listen,
all you got to do is sit, chill, lend me your eyes and your ears.
I'll start now with a bow so better wipe all your tears.

Oxytocin improves muscle contraction of the uterus during delivery,
listen y'all mamas who's pregnant gettin' ready for their babies.
It is also responsible for the ejection of milk,
all you babies getting ready being wrapped up with silk.
They say a simple hug can trigger oxytocin's release,
what more if their daddies give their momie's a kiss.

Next in line is ADH other name is vasopressin,
help the kidneys regulating excretion of urine.
Insufficient amount may lead to Diabetes Insipidus,
D.I. ain't a joke, it's serious so help me Papa Jesus.
Excess amount may lead to SIADH, if i'll transcribe it would be
Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion.

That would be all folks,
let's just call this a night.
Don't make me write more
or we'll just end up in a fight.
So peace out homies, classmates and pips,
just contact me, who knows maybe i'll give you a tip.

ANSWERS

ANSWERS

1-2. The two portions of the Pituitary Gland are the Anterior and the Posterior Pituitary Gland.
3-4. An example of a hormone secreted by the Posterior Pituitary Gland are Oxytocin and Vasopressin (ADH).
5-6. (Explain Vasopressin and Oxytocin)
  • Vasopressin helps the kidneys conserve the correct amount of water in the body to regulate urine excretion.
  • Oxytocin is responsible for stimulating the contractions of the smooth muscles in the uterus when giving birth and is also responsible for producing milk in the mammary glands.
7. Other names for ADH are; Vasopressin, Argipressin or Arginine Vasopressin (AVP).
8. ADH = Anti Diuretic Hormone
9. Excess amount of ADH may cause Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion (SIADH).
10. Insufficient amount of ADH may cause Diabetes Insipidus.

11-15.

Jorjina a 25 year old girl complains that she was always thirsty and that she was urinating very often. She also said that she had a bike accident bumping head first on the ground but she did not feel anything afterwards .

There was no sign of bleeding. What would be the most probable cause of her symptoms? What would be the probable diagnosis for Jorjina?

  • Excessive thirst and urine production may be a cause of Diabetes Insipidus. Also, her bike accident could have her brain injured and brain injury can cause Diabetes Insipidus. Jorjina developed Diabetes Insipidus through brain injury. The diagnosis for jorjina was Diabetes Insipidus through brain injury.
16-20.

Kimdrew a 45 year old construction worker who is a chain smoker complains about having seizures. He also stated that sometimes he is irritable and has personality changes.

Other symptoms of kimdrew were nausea and vomiting. What would be the cause of the said symptoms? What would be the diagnosis of the 45 year old construction worker?

  • Kimdrew may have developed Lung cancer through smoking. These cancer produces Anti Diuretic Hormone (ADH). Production of ADH by the cancer may cause excessive ADH. An excessive ADH level is diagnosed by SIADH (Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion). Also, other symptoms of SIADH were nausea, vomiting, irritability, personality changes, such as combativeness, confusion, and hallucinations, seizures, coma and many more. The Diagnosis of the patient was SIADH which was caused by Lung cancer.
